Turkish is one of the Turkic languages of the Altaic language family. It is the official language in Turkey and also spoken in Cyprus, Europe and the Middle East. The origin of Turkish can be traced back to Ottoman Turkish, which was written in Arabic script and contained many Arabic and Persian loanwords. After reformation, Modern Turkish is now using Latin alphabet and has replaced the loanwords with Turkish equivalents.
Interested users could go to the Language Learning Centre of the Hong Kong Central Library to find out more about Persian and Turkish.
